More than just slides

February 25, 2026

This week, our researchers participated in an interactive presentation workshop.

A group of people in a chair circle. All are upright and doing some stretching.
Woman with long brown hair and a green pullover draws something on a white board with a pen.
Round pieces of paper on a wall with expression levels written on them.
Barbara Beege talking with moving arms.
A camcorder recording a male person talking. The camera screen is in focus, the person is out of focus.
A row of young male researchers sitting in a row with their hands as fists in front of their bodies.
A person holding a presentation in front of people. A camera is recording the presentation.
A Chinese male holding a fist in front of his mouth for a speech exercise, smiling. He is doing the exercise together with a partner, who can be seen in from the back.

A good presentation starts with a positive attitude! This was one of the key takeaways from our presentation workshop that took place at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics this week. In the interactive workshop, led by trainer Barbara Beege, our young researchers learned how to present themselves with confidence and competence.

The workshop explored topics like how to use your body and voice effectively, how to structure your speech, and how to handle difficult questions.

Beyond theoretical input, the workshop gave participants lots of opportunities to practice - ranging from tongue twisters to spontaneous speeches and a timed 5-minute test talk with slides. The participants received valuable feedback from the trainer and their peers, and even had a chance to perceive their own presentations through video recordings.

Thanks to Barbara Beege for this engaging workshop!
