Participating Institutions

Several research institutions are part of the IMPRS-APS. Doctoral students benefit from the broad experience and excellence of faculties at these universities.

Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (MPQ)

Research at the MPQ in Garching, Germany, focuses on the interaction of light and matter under extreme conditions. The investigated phenomena range from light at the single photon level, to the cooling of ensembles of massive particles, to the generation and application of ultrashort and highly intense light pulses. The MPQ is also home to two Nobel Prize winners in Physics: Prof. Theodor W. Hänsch (2005) and Prof. Ferenc Krausz (2023), the director of the IMPRS-APS.
