How to Apply

Your guide to a successful application at IMPRS-APS

Our doctoral program follows a thorough selection process to ensure the best match between candidates and available research opportunities. Here's what you need to know about applying:

Step 1: Initial Application

Submit your application through our online portal: www.application.imprs-aps.mpg.de. We carefully evaluate each application based on academic achievements and potential fit with current research opportunities in our groups. Please note that we can consider only candidates whose research interests align with available projects in our participating research groups.

Step 2: Selection Round

If your application is successful, you'll be invited to participate in our selection round. This includes:

  • Giving an oral presentation about your previous research work
  • A comprehensive interview with our coordinators and several group leaders
  • Discussion of your research interests and career goals
  • Assessment of your English communication skills

Step 3: Final Acceptance

Successful candidates will be matched with a research group and an affiliated university. You'll need to meet the formal admission requirements of your assigned university, which is typically a straightforward process for candidates who have passed our selection round.
