Amelie Heinzerling receives Otto Hahn Medal

Our alumna has been awarded the Otto Hahn Medal from the Max Planck Society for her outstanding work.

Congratulations to Amelie Heinzerling! Our alumna has been awarded the prestigious Otto Hahn Medal from the Max Planck Society for her groundbreaking contribution to ultrafast optics and attosecond science. Yesterday, she received the medal at the Max Planck Society’s Annual Meeting in Frankfurt am Main.

In her thesis at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics, titled “Field-Resolved Single-Cycle Deep-UV Pulses via Attosecond Solitons”, Amelie demonstrated a new source of attosecond pulses, which extends into a new spectral range: the deep ultraviolet. To verify this unprecedented duration of the pulses, she further extended field-resolved attosecond metrology into the deep ultraviolet region. Her pioneering work, which resulted in publication in Nature Photonics last year, has opened the door to a wide array of new opportunities in attosecond science, particularly for studying the dynamics of valence electrons in solids and molecules.
